To write a good love song, you must be in love, otherwise it will not be from the heart. But once you start writing from the heart, you need to avoid sounding cheesy, which is the most difficult task. A love song will help you get all your emotions about the girl out; and let her know how you really feel. A love song doesn't need to follow a lyric pattern, as many of the best love songs are free-verse.
- Use the words "love," "beautiful," "baby," "darling" and "girl" at some point in the song. Compliment the girl on what you find attractive about her, such as her physical or mental attributes.
- Include romantic items in the song, such as flowers, candles and wine. For example, "I want to lay you down in a bed of roses," Bon Jovi.
- Use colorful adjectives to describe how you feel. If you feel especially passionate about part of the song, you should make it known.
- Personalize your love song with events that you and the girl experienced together. This is an opportunity to also add some humor.
- Rhyme her name with a personal verb. For example, "Mary, you make my life so much less scary."
- Play an instrument with your song. Many love song are played on the guitar or piano. Love songs often feature the transition of three or four chords that are played throughout the song.
